Cyanobacteria (Harmful Algae) Blooms

Harmful Algae Blooms

This is a temporary condition that occurs at some of the area lakes when the water temperatures rise. In recent years, advisories have popped up at Ross Island Lagoon, Hagg Lake, Dorena Lake, Vancouver Lake, Odell Lake, to name a few. It is important to know when these conditions exist as it may affect your health or your pet’s health if water is consumed during these conditions.

Not all of the waterbodies in Oregon are actively monitored though. So you should get more info on how you can determine if algae is harmful and also use your common sense.

Don’t go into water that looks foamy, scummy, thick like paint, pea-green, blue-green or brownish red. A good rule of thumb for you and your pet is: When in Doubt, Stay Out!
